DRAMA

Drama is about human behaviour, relationships and communicating ideas. It is a great avenue for releasing imagination and exploring oral and physical language.

Drama is undertaken from Year 7 to Year 12.  In Year 10, students can choose to do Drama or Video Drama Production. Year 11 students can take a one or two semester SACE unit in Drama that leads onto SACE Drama (one or two units) and Drama Studies (Full year) in Year 12.

Through their studies in Drama, students are exposed to the knowledge and skills of:

  • Improvisation

  • Mime

  • Movement

  • Theatre

  • Scripted drama

Students learn about Drama from its beginnings to the 21st Century.  This includes:

  • Ritual

  • Greek Theatre

  • Medieval Theatre

  • Elizabethean Theatre

  • Asian Theatre

  • Melodrama

  • 20th Century Theatre

During the past year, many visiting artists have come to the school to perform for the students. In addition, excursions to see live theatre are continually important for the students' cultural experiences. Last year highlights included Australian playwright, Michael Gow's "Away", and this year, students have already seen Shakespeare's classic "Hamlet".

One of the major events for the senior students is the Year 12 Group Production which often involves students from other year levels. This year the students performed the flamboyant audacious, highly acclaimed "Amadeus" by Peter Shaffer.

Drama is a very creative, culturally and politically interesting subject. Through practical work , exposure to live theatre and drama analysis that also involves looking at texts and technical theatre, students gain insight into the world they have inherited.
