ADAPTIVE EDUCATION

‘Education is not filling a bucket but lighting a fire.’      W.B. Yeats

This saying has adorned the walls of the Adaptive Education room for some time. The Adaptive Education Department offers sanctuary and a little sanity amidst the hurley-burley, the mixed-up, shook-up world that adolescent boys encounter these days and we do so without fear or favour. We are deeply committed to the traditional values of the 3Rs and yet are very modern in our understanding of the holistic experience of education.

The Student Program

The Adaptive Education Department provides assistance to students who have special needs with their learning. This can take many forms according to the particular needs of the student. Adaptive Education staff are available to support students on an individual or group basis, within their classroom or in the Adaptive Education area.

Middle School

At Year 7 and 8, students are mainstreamed for all subjects. Assistance with learning occurs in the classroom or in the small group setting at the discretion of the classroom/subject teacher.

At Year 9, students who have struggled with core subjects are withdrawn from the Language Other than English line and are given assistance with basic literacy and numeracy skills, as well as organisational and study skills.

Senior School
At Year 10, 11 and 12 students are assisted 1:1 on a needs basis

The Adaptive Education area is open every lunchtime for students to complete homework tasks or to receive assistance.
