Learning through having fun

Children explore, investigate and discover through play

The Blackfriars Early Learning Centre offers an integrated play-based curriculum for boys and girls aged 3 - 5 years in a safe and welcoming learning environment.

An inquiry based approach, including learning through play, investigation and exploration, provides our youngest learners with the opportunity to pursue their individual interests and our staff to cater for their specific needs.

Being part of the Blackfriars school community, the Blackfriars ELC offers your son or daughter a unique opportunity to access specialist staff and facilities in the areas of music, art, drama, physical education, ICT, languages and sciences.

I extend the warmest of welcomes to your family to the Blackfriars Early Learning Centre.

Each individual child is unique, and we endeavour to make a difference in the lives of everyone in our ELC community. Our ELC environment provides a safe, stimulating and caring place where mutual respect and the building of positive relationships is paramount. We know that children respond to positive interactions, an enriched play environment and an inclusive social setting that allows for open communication and self-expression.

We acknowledge that parents are their child’s first teacher and encourage interactions that enhance sharing of information. At our ELC, both formal and informal processes are part of the information process covering a child's development, the activities they take part in and the social relationships they form.

I look forward to meeting with you and your family and welcome any queries you may have.

Mrs Karen McEntee
Director, Blackfriars Early Learning Centre
