SCHOLARSHIPSAcademic | Access | Single Year Bursary Blackfriars offers three kinds of scholarships: Academic, Access and Single Year Tuition and Bursary Scholarships. The Academic scholarships are offered each year to Year 7 students that will be attending Year 8 in the following year. Access Scholarships are offered each year to students according to need, and vary in their benefit. A single-year Bursary is awarded to Year 6 students. Students in Year 11 and Year 12 are eligible to receive a single-year Tuition and Bursary Scholarship. Academic ScholarshipsAt Blackfriars Priory School we are pleased to offer scholarships that are designed for students in Year 7 during 2008, for entry into Year 8 in 2009. These scholarships offer a 50% reduction in tuition fees for the rest of a boy's education at Blackfriars, subject to certain conditions. The Academic Scholarships are awarded on the results of the ACER (The Australian Council for Educational Research) examination. The scholarships will be awarded by the Principal upon review of the ACER Examination results.
Access ScholarshipAccess Scholarships are provided on the basis of financial need, so that no student is denied a place at Blackfriars because of his family's inability to meet the full fees. The level of reduction thus, varies from family to family. The Access Scholarship reflects Blackfriars' genuine solidarity with the disadvantaged. At the same time, the school expects that all families will make a genuine attempt to contribute to the school, in any way possible, within their means. Applicants are required to disclose some information about their income, expenditure and assets, to assist the school in reviewing eligibility. All information is treated confidentially. Scholarships will be reviewed annually, as we understand that a family's financial position may change with time. Application forms may be obtained, upon request, from the school office. Other Bursaries and ScholarshipsA number of other bursaries and scholarship are offered. Application forms may be obtained upon request from the Registrar. P & F Association Primary School BursaryThe Parents & Friends Association established this Bursary in 1993, mindful of the contribution which the parents of primary boys make to the life of the school. The recipient must be attending Blackfriars in Year 5.
Starrs Family Scholarship
Fr John Neill Scholarship and Mr John Lewis ScholarshipThese scholarships are provided to assist with tuition and living expenses at either Year 11 or Year 12 level at Blackfriars Priory School. Those eligible to apply are present students at Blackfriars or those eligible to be enrolled at the school. No student can receive a scholarship until their enrolment is confirmed.
General ExpectationsAll scholarship holders are expected to take part in all compulsory school activities, and to contribute to the life of the school according to their gifts and talents. Tenure of scholarships and bursaries will cease if a student ceases to be enrolled at Blackfriars for any reason whatsoever. A student may hold only one scholarship or bursary at any one time at Blackfriars. Should a student holding a scholarship or bursary be awarded or offered another, his parents/guardians may choose between the two. The remaining portion of the relinquished scholarship may then be offered by the Principal to another student. The Principal may, with reasonable notice, revoke a scholarship or bursary for any reason he judges appropriate, and particularly if a student is guilty of a serious misdemeanor, persistent and willful misconduct, or persistent refusal to meet academic deadlines and reasonable expectations of work.
