Personal Counselling

One of the hallmarks of a Christian community such as ours must be the caring atmosphere that pervades the implementation of rules and decisions. Rules are formed for the good order of the community, but each individual will have their own reaction to them, and their own personal circumstances.

An awareness and understanding of these circumstances is a necessary part of the counselling function. All staff are prepared to exercise a counselling role. However, the class teacher or the home group teacher should be the front line counsellor as they are best placed to come to this understanding.

Where special help is necessary, the student can be referred to, or choose to go to, the Student Counsellor, the Chaplain or the Headmaster.

The Student Counsellor is available to students, parents and staff . Where outside referral seems appropriate, it will be done only with parental approval, only after careful assessment and only with the consent of the Principal. Such referral will be made through the Student Counsellor (Personal).

The Chaplain, by nature of his priesthood, training, unique position on the staff, and his personal interest, fill a special counselling role. Students should be encouraged to take advantage of this special facility.

Careers Counselling

Career and Employment counselling, whilst implemented with the assistance of classroom teachers, is the direct responsibility of the Careers Counsellor The Careers Counsellor can provide academic counselling related to course and subject choice; assistance in the choice of, and application for, post school courses; and general 'leaving school' advice. Interview times can be arranged for students (and their parents) by contacting the Careers Counsellor.
