vocational education & training (VET)
Vocational Education & Training programs provide
students with opportunities to:
-
Experience training in a career pathway
-
Undertake a work placement
-
Be competency assessed in the workplace
-
Receive dual accreditation for SACE units and Nationally
Accredited
Units of Competency
-
Gain advantage in securing employment or entrance to
training programs and/or TAFE courses
-
Experience an industry area without affecting their ability
to complete the SACE.
A number of VET modules are implemented into our
school's curriculum and taught to our students at Years 8, 9, 10 and 11.
Subjects that have embedded units are:
-
Year 8 & 9 Society & Environment / Information Technology Units
-
Year 10 - Information Technology
-
Year 11 - Stage 1 - Tourism
Students also have the opportunity to select other
Vocational programs. These programs are offered at Blackfriars, or in
arrangement with other member schools of the
Inner Northern Adelaide
Partnership, or delivered by trainers at Registered Training Organisations.
Many of these courses are delivered outside of school hours to minimize
any negative impact on their other studies. Costs of courses vary
and are subsidised by contributions from the school.
Many courses require students to undertake Structured
Workplace Learning (SWL), where they have the opportunity to apply what
they have learnt at a real worksite. Most SWL is undertaken during
school holiday breaks.
Students successfully completing VET courses receive
certification from the school or Partnership, and from the Registered
Training Organization. All students are recognized for their efforts
at a VET Graduation ceremony held at the end of each semester.
