the blackfriars communityInvolvement in the Blackfriars community is welcomed and actively encouraged. There are a number of ways parents, grandparent, friends and old scholars can support the school community through their involvement and participation. The Parents & Friends Association meets regularly and is open to all parents, while the Blackfriars Old Scholars Association (BOSA) provides old scholars an opportunity to continue their relationship with the school. There are also a number of other less formal ways that parents and friends can contribute to the community, namely, as a Tuck Shop volunteer, Learning Assistance Program volunteer or a coach/manager of a sporting or co-curricular team Tuck ShopThe function of the Tuck Shop is to provide healthy food at recess and lunchtime for students and staff. Any profits made go into general school funds to improve facilities at the school. In order, to keep this service economical to run, volunteers are always needed to staff the Tuck Shop. If you would like to meet new friends and help the school, your help would be warmly welcomed. Volunteers are always required, whether it is on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly basis, or once a term. If you are available between 9.30am and 1.30pm, and can offer assistance, then contact the Tuck Shop Manager, Mrs Francis Markota on 8269 6333. Learning Assistance ProgramThe aim of the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is to foster the development of a student's confidence and self-esteem in achieving success. This is accomplished by working one-to-one with a student, to develop a talent, or extend an interest, or just provide individual support with the skills of reading, writing, spelling or mathematics. The need varies with the individual; however, central to the program's objectives is the development of a positive and happy relationship between student and volunteer. If you value developing the individual, and would like to work on a one-to-one basis with a student for one or two regular sessions each week, then contact the LAP Coordinator, Mrs Pat Patience on 8269 6333. Co-curricular ActivitiesThe co-curricular program provides students an opportunity to learn about commitment, develop their character and gain enjoyment from participation. Each student is expected to participate in one co-curricular activity per year. The wide range of activities, both sporting and non-sporting, is supported by a strong commitment from the staff and parental support is always welcomed. The school encourages parents to become positively involved in coaching, managing or supporting a team. If you can offer assistance, then contact the Co-Curricular Coordinator, Mr Leo Panzarino on 8269 6333. |
